Land of Giants Fishing Report – October 3rd, 2017
Land of Giants fishing on the Missouri River continues to be very good. The colder weather has pretty much set in now, so the fishing should remain strong until the coldness of Winter sets in.
The callibaetis hatch is pretty much over in the lake for the year. There are a few straggler bugs, but too many. They have been replaced by midges and a few other small mayflies. The leech action has remained strong in the lake though. Or, streamer fishing has been quite good as well, with a fair number of brown trout being caught.
The river has been fishing well, most days. A few of the sunnier days can be tricky. But that usually only lasts a couple of hours, then all is well again. Scuds, sow bugs and very small mayflies have been best. Afternoons have provided our best fishing. Or, on cloudy days, expect it to fish well throughout the day. There are a few random risers here and there in the afternoon hours. Not really enough to make legit targets though. As we continue to cool off, lets hope for some BWO action on the surface maybe?
Lots of cold and snow in the forecast currently. This is great for the fishing, but not so fun for the boat ride. Warmer weather is coming for the weekend, with another strong punch of Winter stuff right after. Bring your cold weather gear and trust it. The fishing is going to be very good!
